We are delighted to offer an exclusive opportunity to join a series of small group expeditions (8 to 10 people) that will forge links with the Dolpo-pa people in the remote North West of Nepal – a fabled, sacred, remote and stunningly scenic area deep within the high Himalaya.
These expeditions are being implemented in partnership between Nomadic Skies UK and Crystal Peak Journeys. The expeditions are also actively supported by the Yeti Airlines Group who will ensure the smooth operation of flights to and from Dolpo.
The route is on relatively good paths but with some steep ascents and exposure in places (vertigo could be an issue). The expedition will ascend to around 3800metres culminating in Ringmo by the fabled Phoksundo Lake at 3650metres. An optional additional ascent to the Yak pastures and rock fields above Ringmo would involve ascending to around 4000 metres. A good level of health and fitness and experience of walking is therefore required for this expedition.
This is an exclusive expedition that will take members on a journey to interact and develop links with the Dolpo-pa, the proud semi-nomadic people of the upper valleys of Dolpo who have a unique Tibetan culture, way of life and ancient religion. The Bon religion shares the same overall teachings and terminology as Tibetan Buddhism but is viewed as being a distinct religion whose roots predate Buddhism and has its roots in animist religions.Through these expeditions, Nomadic Skies aims to build on links already established with the Dolpo-pa during initial work in the area undertaken by the Nomadic Skies Founder, Gavin Anderson, and our local partner Jigme Lama. Nomadic Skies aims to operate in a way that is different from conventional trekking tours and to ensure that these expeditions contribute to improving local skills in tourism and to increase the economic benefit that mountain communities gain from foreign visitors to the area.
